Serves all my car audio needs
I have an old car - a 14 year old Subaru with some good miles on it but still plenty left to go. Since I plan on having my car for a while, I decided to replace my old Sony head unit with something that worked. The old one was just tired out. After doing a lot of research online, I found this gem for just under $100 and decided I would do the install myself. It has bluetooth that syncs up nicely with my iPhone. Phone conversations can be routed through the speakers for hands-free operation (a requirement where I live) and a microphone can be routed through the console to provide clear voice for the person on the other end. Bonus feature - Siri is more interactive with this unit, repeating text messages I am about to send and answering a variety of questions through the car speakers. Bluetooth capability also works for XM Sirius app on iPhone, nice to have that available as well.Audio quality is good, not as much power as I had in my previous Sony but then again, I don't want to blow my speakers like I did when I was younger. A good EQ allows for the listener to find that sweet spot for their speakers and go from there. With a bunch of preset EQ options, you'll find what you want/need.The menu system is a bit tedious to get through but that isn't enough to drop it down from 5 stars for me. It provides a lot of options for display, brightness, auto-answer on phonecalls, etc, so that's why it takes so much to get through. Some people knock it, I can deal with it considering what else this stereo can do.A remote does allow for the listener to cruise through 18 preset FM stations without having to look down from the wheel as well as change between audio sources. CD, Aux, USB, Pandora, Bluetooth, AM (does anyone listen to AM anymore?) - plenty to scroll through and having a remote helps to pay attention to traffic and not the head unit.Overall, a great stereo that was easy to install, easy to setup, and is a joy to use.

Looks good, large buttons easy for my meatwad fingers to operate
The good:I don't use the bluetooth feature (soon?) so I can't comment on that. The USB works great, reads my 64GB Kingston mini-stick just fine, with about 20GB of music on it, takes about 3-5 seconds from startup to playing music. It will resume from the exact spot in the song, instead of restarting the song like some players. Radio tuner works as expected, although accessing programmed stations #7 and up involves a few menu changes, which is annoying. I only get about 5 stations anyway, so it is a non-issue for me. Haven't tried CD's yet, but I assume they will work as expected. Sound quality is reasonable, I have mine setup with 4x 6.5" front and rear, no subs/amps. Control and display illumination is controllable, though colour is not changeable. The dimmest setting is quite nice for night time, with no distracting brightness. The brightest setting makes the buttons easily visible, but direct sunlight will still outshine the display, otherwise, is great! The bad:It is quiet! I'm not sure if it has to do with my ripped mp3's, but the radio is quiet, too. The volume dial goes up to 30, but it doesn't get exceedingly loud. Presumably, if combined with amplifiers, would get a lot louder, but basic deck operation of speakers should at least suffice. At maximum volume, with the ambient road/engine noise, it is almost impossible to make out radio audio, and USB music has to be in the 25+ range. Basically, MP3 source is ok, radio is too quiet, not sure how to fix.Bottom line:great value stereo, loads of options for connectivity, configurable brightness of day/night display is useable, but volume needs to be louder, no way to change this except maybe with an amplifier.

Great Car Stereo
Wow, it's under $100 now. Stop the painful research of looking for the best car stereo because you have found it.I bought this for use with my VW Van. It is now my 15th or so stereo I have purchased for a car in 20+ years so I have done this quite a bit.Stereos are getting easier to install these days. The wiring harnesses are decent and by now, the connections are much simpler.I had this installed in my van in about 30 minutes time, including the time to wire the mic. It was dead simple!I chose this because overall, I like JVC products. This is now my 3rd unit, one of which I sold with a previous car. My other car also has a JVC and I like it.PROsI like the ease of use. The software is logical and getting to features is easy. I didn't even need to read the manual to set the clock!Bluetooth! It works for me. Hands free pairing with multiple phones (iOS and Android) No issues with clarity.Sound Clarity: Excellent...And tunable for the circumstances/automobile! Bluetooth sounds good, too.removable Faceplace is a nice security feature.Last of it's kind: Has a CD/DVD player....You never know when you will need it! Having a CD player is great for long trips where your cellphone doesn't have a signal for your radio!I plugged in a USB stick with my audio library on it. Navigating the library is easy. Using shuffle is fun, too!Remote control! Awesome for use with a camper!CONsI dug deep on this to find a con. I could not find any CONs. I really tried. It does everything I want and the price is totally affordable! I recommend this unit for anyone needing a decent BlueTooth solution for their car.
